The Phillies release regarding Chase Utley.
“Chase’s rehab process has come to a bit of a plateau. He has made some strides but not enough to take the field. He is headed out of town for a few days to be evaluated by a specialist that has helped athletes overcome his issue. We anticipate that this trip will allow him to build on what he has already done with Scott Sheridan in order to get over the hump. He wants more than anything to be on the field with his teammates and we believe that this is a step in that direction.”

I’m no doctor, but this is terrible news.

No, it’s not which begs me to ask ” Is it over for Chase?” . I had a chat with my oldest son the other day about professional athletes and their unwillingness to call it quits and retire when their bodies can not perform well due to injuries. He explained it that their whole life is dedicated to playing in the sport that they love and not wanting to give it up. I’m not saying Chase is there yet. We shall wait and see. I’m just saying that their team is left holding the bag and trying to fill the empty space that they vacated as best as they can. It’s a sticky situation to be in. Shouldn’t these athletes have a plan B in the works after their participation in sports is over? Just my thoughts. When’s it time to throw in the towel for the sake of everyone concerned?
