It truly is anyone’s guess as to what’s up with this Jayson Werth situation. Earlier today a rumor was swirling that that the Phillies offered Jayson $55 million over 3 years with an option for a 4th year (pretty believable). It’s also been said, and I reported the same story last night that the Phillies were “Close” to with Werth, but today he denied that that was fact.
Jim Salisbury from CSNPhilly.com reported tonight that Werth had been asked in a text message if he was close to signing anywhere. Werth’s
response was: “Not at all. It’s very early. I will make
an informed decision in due time.”
What do I believe. I believe that Jayson is smart enough not to say anything dumb or let anyone think that he is ready to commit to anyone or any team. He’s going to entertain other offers, but this offer from the Phillies is pretty decent. Besides cash he’s looking for years though, so we’ll see.

I agree with your assessment. It’s still a little early for Werth to agree to any contract. He has to play the game which I think sucks but that’s the way that it is in sports business. Interesting that Jim Salisbury can just text Werth whenever he has a question He was the one who had him all but traded in July. It must be nice to have a direct connection while the rest of us peons have to sift through all the rumors in hopes of finding some version of truth. I am patient and am relying on what my gut is telling me. It could be wrong but I’m still going with it. I have a different kind of connection.
Ugh! Just wrote a nice comment but it didn’t submit. Ok, I’ll try again. I agree with your assessment. I think that it’s too early for Werth to commit to anything. He has to play the game which I think stinks but that’s sports business for you. It’s interesting that Salisbury can text Werth whenever he has a question. Must be nice. He’s the same guy that had him all but traded in July. You see how that turned out. We peons, on the other hand, must sift through all the rumors and reports out there for some version of truth. I’m going with what my gut tells me though. It might be wrong but I’m still relying on it. I have a different kind of connection you see.
