It looks like he doesn’t.
Early yesterday it was reported that Roy by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that Oswalt does not want to play for the Phillies. Then a few hours later Oswalt told MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart that “location doesn’t matter.” He was also quoted in a local Houston paper saying that he would accept a deal to the East Coast under the right circumstances. “That’s not an issue,” he said.
The issue is money, duh Roy, we got it.
What I think will make this deal strange is that Roy is regarding himself as a staff ace, and we all know that in Philly this guy is gonna be our third starter. Does he want to go to a team to contend or does he want to go there to be the ace? He’s been the ace in Houston and I’m sure he’s had fun there. They have been in the basement of their division for years. I look at a guy like Zack Greinke, he won the Cy Young in Kansas City but that’s all he’ll ever do there. Do you think that’s what Greinke wants? What’s wrong with Philly Roy? I’m not even sure if I want a Prima donna like that.
Word out of the Philles camp is that it’s a possibility that Oswalt can be had without having to deal Jayson Werth. The Astros are apparently seeking Major League caliber pitchers, for us that likely means J.A. Happ.

I have heard that Oswalt is now an injury concern…he left a game with an ankle injury recently and the news channels keep going on about some back issue he has? I dunno, but the more I hear about the guy, the less I want him in Philly.

Always knew Oswalt was full of himself. Only wanted him because he’s so good. If he really doesn’t want to be here and will only come if the price is right then the hell with him. I’d sooner get rid of Werth and keep Happ. Werth has a few good years left but can be replaced by someone like Dominic Brown. Happ on the other hand has his entire career in front of him and it’s not so easy to replace a great pitcher. It’s possible but easier to replace a strong hitter. WE NEED STRONG PITCHING HERE! We can find someone decent and stilll keep our core. So tired of trading talent for a big name who ends up a bust. Freddy Garcia and Livan Hernandez ring a bell? Not to mention all the other awful trades made from circa mid 1980′s until a couple years ago. Remember we had Ryne Sandberg in 1980. Who’d we get for him? Happ reminds me of a future Steve Carlton although I said the same about Hamels but there’s still time for both. Give Grienke a shot probably get him cheaper, better trade deal, and seems like not a primma donna. Already have one of those his name is Rollins.
I saw Rosenthal on MLB Network saying this same thing, which now we know is hogwash… points to remember, by virute of Rosenthals financial commitments he’s pro Atlanta so anything he can do to roughen anything to do with the Phillies is in his interests…. he was accusing Amaro of killing this Phillies by trading Lee then going for Oswalt… he doesn’t follow the facts or just ignores them… late comming to the game dsl problems… back tracking now..LOL
